| Butterflies as a symbolic gesture. The latest trend for churches, schools and camps is to release butterflies to signify a new beginning. This could be a religious ceremony such as an Easter service, a graduation or even a camp event. For example, St Mary’s church, in Los Gatos California, has been ordering butterflies for their pre-schoolers to signify the transition from pre school to the kindergarten catechism This year 83 children will participate in the release. Butterflies also signify good luck. Native Americans say, “ If you have a special wish or desire capture a butterfly and whisper your wish, than let the butterfly free. Since the butterfly cannot speak it will take your wish safely up to the great spirit to be granted. |
